Frequently Asked Questions About Falls

How long does my hair have to be to wear your hairpieces?
It should be long enough to put into a ponytail or pigtails.

What's the difference between the mountings?
I recommend lace attachments for almost all my clients who are unfamiliar with hairpieces. They're incredibly easy to put in, require few bobby pins and hold rather well. If you do not specify the type of mounting you would like, I will mount on elastic.
Lace mountings, on the other hand, are for more experienced hairpiece users - if you are already comfortable using lace-mounted hairpieces, I'd be happy to accommodate that.

What's the difference between pairs and single dreadfalls?
None. Pairs and singles are constructed in the same manner but a single dreadfall has 1.25 times the number of dreads as a hairpiece from a pair, though the pair has more dreads combined than a single. Single dreadfalls are designed for those who prefer wearing a single hairpiece (in a ponytail) as opposed to a pair (in pigtails or an extra thick ponytail).

Frequently Asked Questions About Extension Dreads

How long does my hair have to be for extension dreads?
3-4 inches preferably. It simply makes it easier to braid in the dreads.

Can I braid in dreads shorter than my own natural hair?
Yes, using a blanket stitch braid. An illustrated guide will be put up shortly.

I have natural dreads. Can I wear extension dreads?
Absolutely. Using single ended dreads, pull the loop through the loose roots using a large crochet hook. Pull the dread part through the loop, anchoring the dread to the natural dreadlock. An illustrated guide will be provided shortly.

What's the difference between double ended dreads and single ended dreads?
Single looped dreads are basically single ended dreads witha loop at the top. Double ended dreads are a lock of synthetic hair with a dread at each end and some undreaded hair in the middle. Basically with double ended dreads you get 2 dreads as opposed to single ended dreads where you get one. As a result, you'll need twice as many single ended looped dreads as double ended dreads, as in the end you'll need about the same number of dreads total for the same coverage.

Which should I use?
If you're unaccustomed to wearing and installing extensions, double ended dreads are more often best. As there's twice the dreads per lock, you'll be using twice the size per section fo hair, meaning that you'll spend less time installing them and the large sections ease the discomfort of wearing heavier extensions. If you're particularly accustomed to extensions (both installation and wear), you'll find that single ended dreads will yeild more time in terms of continous wear, as they can be braided in tighter than double ended dreads as sections are smaller and root growth and slippage is minimized.

How do I put them in?
A detailed instruction guide for double ended dread installation is available here. I'm currently working on an illustrated guide for single ended dreads.

How long can I wear them for?
I recommend taking double ended dreads out after 2-3 weeks (basically after 1" of your roots are showing). Single ended dreads can be left for longer as they can be installed tighter, but again, use the 1" of root hair rule. While no harm will come to the hair, your roots may dread from prolonged periods without combing. After 2-3 weeks, remove the dreads, thoroughly wash and comb your hair, and reinstall them at your convenience.

Can I wash my hair while I have the double ended dreads?
Absolutely. You can shower with them as normal. I suggest only washing the scalp as the dreads are very much like sponges and soak up water, making them very heavy. They'll retain the water as well and thus take a long time to dry. It's rather inconvenient so it's best avoidable as much as possible. Simply tie your dreads up, mix water and shampoo in a large container, pour it on your scalp, massaging it in with your fingers. Rinse by tipping your head forward, and pour water at your roots, again taking the time to pull your dreads away.

General Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between falls/hairpieces and extension dreads?
Hairpieces/falls are intended to be worn for short-term wear (about as long as you'd wear a wig). Extensions are individual dreadlocks which are integrated with your own hair (by process of braiding) which can be worn for an extended period of time (4-6 weeks).

Do you take custom orders for items not on your site?
If you have an idea for a hairpiece or are looking for something in particular, mail me and I'll tell you if I can work with your idea. Check out the Special Order section to get some inspiration of our previous creations.

I want a colour not mentioned on your site. Can I get it?
Probably. Mail me and I'll definitely do my best to order it in, or to blend colours to make it match.

Can you match my hair colour?
Yes! If you snail mail me a swatch of your hair (pulled from a brush and put into a plastic baggie) or email me scans or pics in natural light, or even refer me to the colour of hairdye you use, I can probably approximate your haircolour for a close match. The more accurate the source (like your hair, as opposed to a hairdye scan on my craptacular monitor) the better the result be. I however, cannot guarantee perfect matches, but I can promise I'll do my best.

What's the difference between blended, swirled and solid coloured dreads?
These options are only available to dreadlock product (falls, single ended and double ended dreads). Swirled dreads are dreads where two colours are swirled together but kept distinct to create a candycane effect. Blended dreads are dreads composed of two colours are mixed together to create a completely different hue (such as this dusty rose pink). Solid coloured dreads are just that - a single colour pulled from my colour chart.

How do I care for my BCD product?
Check out the care instructions page for detailed instructions on how to care for your BCD product.

Do you do extensions?
Yes I do! Check out the Extension Services page for details!

My question isn't on here. How do I get an answer?
Mail me!! I'd love to answer any questions you may have about the process or the hair or any of my products.
